Lego Dalek Playsets

Character Building Lego Dalek Sets Let You Have Fun with the Doctor’s Most Enduring Villains

Lego Dalek sets and micro-figures by Character Building let you have fun with one of Doctor Who’s most enduring villains. The Daleks are cyborgs from the planet Skaros who have implanted their mutant bodies into a tank-like mechanical shell. Purged of all emotion except hate, the Daleks lack pity or compassion and are motivated only by the desire to purge the universe of all non-Dalek life.

They were created by Doctor Who creator Terry Nation and were first introduced in December 1963 in the second Doctor Who serial The Daleks. The instant popularity of the Daleks helped turn Doctor Who from a Saturday morning educational program to a national phenomenon. The Daleks have since become so famous that their catchphrases such as “Exterminate!” and “We are the Supreme Beings!” have become part of British popular culture.

They also appeared in two theatrical films, Dr. Who and the Daleks (1965) and Daleks Invasion Earth: 2150 AD (1966) which starred Peter Cushing as the Doctor. The Daleks who appeared in these films also inspired the New Paradigm Daleks that first appeared in the episode Victory of the Daleks.

Character Building has produced two Dalek playsets:

The Dalek Factory is a highly detailed set that includes actual moving parts such as a conveyor belt on which you can put Dalek mini-figures, a swiveling machine arm that can hold Dalek figures and control panels as well as a Dalek parts hopper and a rejected parts bin. It comes with constructible red Dalek Drone and yellow Dalek Scientist figures. Designed for ages six and up, the Dalek Factory set lets you build your own Dalek army to conquer the universe. It is designed for ages five and up.

The Dalek Progenitor set is a highly-detailed replica of the Progenitor device on the Dalek spaceship which the New Paradigm Daleks emerged to disintegrate the “inferior” original models. The highly-detailed set comes with a white Dalek Supreme mini-figure. It is designed for ages six and up.

These Lego Dalek playsets are scaled to work with other Character Building Doctor Who micro-figures, such as the Dalek Army Builder Pack, which comes with five Dalek Drones, as well as the Doctor Who Micro-Figures series which feature figures of blue Dalek Strategist, Dalek Drones and Dalek: the Supreme. Lego Dalek Character Building sets are also designed to be compatible with Lego sets as well as other block-based construction sets.

3 Types of Dalek Toys Worth Owning

The Daleks become one of the most popular villains in science fiction television when they showed up in the Dr. Who show.

The mutants are completely insane cyborgs that seek to destroy all life forms, and seek only to keep other Dalek alive. Sine their inception they have been the most popular piece of the show, aside from the Doctor.

It’s interesting to note that there is even a documentary chronicling the creation and popularity of the aliens. With so much attention placed on the villains, it’s no wonder that people are looking to find all sorts of Dalek toys to purchase.

There are currently 3 different types to invest in, and no matter what your plan is for the toys, you’ll want to look at each one with care, as they might be your next purchase.

  • 1960’s Classic Dalek Figures – Since they were introduced, fans have clamored to get their hands on replicas, and with modern toy options you can get the original design style in your hands with relative ease. You’ll notice that the original is relatively archaic in comparison to the new styles, and can really set a collection apart.
  • The 2010 Daleks – The modern times have really shifted the way people design things, and the show started to redesign elements of the show to coincide with the changing of the Doctor. The latest change came to these villains and there was a slight outcry at first. However, long time fans embraced the new modern designs as they are now made. Dalek toys of this type are quite popular.
  • Scale Models – There are toys, and then there are scale models that are intricately carved, molded and created for the diehard fans of the show. These are usually priced higher than other options, are completely scale, and come with certificate of authenticity to prove that they aren’t mass-produced. This type of option is not so much a toy as it is a collectible.

Amongst the stories from Dr. Who, these crazy villainous robotic options continue to have a life of their own, complete with full fan fare that you would see from fanatics of cult hit science fiction programs. When you see the variations available to the consumer, it’s going to be hard not to pick up all 3 elements and types. If you’re concerned with budget, a quick piece of advice is simply to set aside a budget specifically for the purchase of collectibles of this type. You’ll be glad you did.

Amy Pond Figures – 3 Things To Look For

Many fans of the Doctor Who series were in an uproar when a sexy new companion showed up to accompany the Doctor in the eleventh incarnation of the show, but fan fare started to grow almost immediately after the traditionalists let their cry out.

Amy Pond is played by Karen Gillan and is a recurring character that was introduced during the first episode of the latest season. While her character is relatively new, she has garnered a great deal of fan fare in a short amount of time. That’s something more people don’t really get, since many of the other characters in the Dr Who universe took a little longer to gain such fan favoritism.

It wasn’t without complaint, so it’s interesting to note the dichotomy. When looking to purchase Amy Pond figures, make sure that you look for 3 distinctive things.

  • Standard Issue Amy Pond Figure – The first toy that was issued has Amy in her standard clothing. Boots, skirt, red shirt and a jacket, nothing too fancy, and classic 5” action figure style. This is one for the collectors to make sure they have their base set before going for the more elaborate issued toys.
  • Amy Pond Police Uniform Figure – The second thing you’ll want to look for is Amy Pond in her police uniform outfit. This option usually comes with an audio disc as a bonus feature, but is relatively similar to the aforementioned figure, only with her police uniform, ready for action.
  • The Doctor, Tardis, and Amy Pond- You can find a triple threat with all 3 main points of interest from the Dr Who universe in one package. You’ll get all 3 in a 5-inch format with a tardis that fits both characters. Amy is in her police uniform while the Doctor is dressed in his sports coat and ready to move through time.

The aforementioned are the 3 incarnations of the action figure at the present time. There are other options that will most likely be explored in the coming future, but as it stands, there are only 3 major ways to pick up the Amy Pond figures that represent the character this season.

Collecting all three options requires an open eye, and a steady handle on who has it in stock, as these toys go fast in modern stores. Many people are starting to watch the show and become fans, so when there are new Dr Who figures released, people jump at the chance to procure them.
